02.    Do Hut

Do Hut is a children’s playhouse designed, built, and raffled to support local charity: Henrico CASA. It provides the opportunity for constructively occupying one’s self without prescribing how one should do it.

Four interactive built-ins transfigure in both form and use to foster a spectrum of static and dynamic activities:

1. Storage Unit / Work Surface
2. Murphy Bed / Chalkboard
3. Window Seat / Chest / Chalkboard
4. Hearth / Chimney / Lookout

Do Hut emphasizes the thoughtful use of modest materials. The room’s structure is a marriage between the orthogonal and the curvalinear, sheathed in color. Its form is an 8’ x 8’ x 8’ box with one radiused edge - springing from an interior datum line that distinguishes wall from ceiling.

03.    Martin Dermatology

To counteract the effects of this window-scarce space, Martin Dermatology allocated design efforts and budget to provide a warm, bright, and welcoming space.

These design elements strive to invite users to a more transparent and patient-centered model of care—delivered through a membership structure that prioritizes on-call provider availability, longer visits with patients. By removing third-party billing and insurance-related barriers, this model reduces administrative complexity and protects patients from the unpredictability and limitations often associated with traditional insurance plans.

04.    The Curtain

A children’s playhouse  - (for playing and for putting on plays) designed, built, and raffled to support local charity: Henrico CASA.

By three sets of sliding doors, The Curtain is divided into two distinctly-themed zones: green/fairytales/forest/spells and red/black/theater/magician/trickery/illusions.

These sliding doors (or curtains) are sandwiched between plywood and revealed through arched openings with cove lighting: a simplified nod to the proscenium arch in classical theater.

The lateral faces of The Curtain have exposed studs painted black, giving a “backstage” effect. From here, actors can deploy objects hanging on pulleys, access props stored in treasure chest benches, work on the counter-height desks, or maneuver light with the operable colored windows.
